Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
This policy explains what personal data Architecture Explained (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit this site or sign up for our emails or the free guide, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it.
Who we are
Architecture Explained is the trading name this site operates under. For any question about this policy or your data, contact us at contact@architectureexplained.com.
What we collect
- Your email address, if you sign up for our emails or request the free guide.
- Which of a few short options best describes you (e.g. student, architect, construction industry) — asked once at signup, so we understand who’s actually using the site and can prioritise what we build next.
- Whatever you tell us in the feedback form, plus your email address if you choose to leave one there so we can reply.
- Basic analytics data about how you use the site — pages visited, how you interact with the 3D models, how you found the site, device and browser type. This is collected via Microsoft Clarity and Google Analytics. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland they only set analytics cookies if you accept them when asked; you can change your answer at any time with . Elsewhere they run automatically and set first-party analytics cookies. You can also opt out of both completely by visiting this site once with
?analytics=offadded to the page URL; your browser remembers that choice on later visits.
We don’t use cookies or tracking for advertising, and we don’t sell or rent your data to anyone.
Why we collect it, and our legal basis
- To send you what you asked for (the guide, or updates about new assemblies) — based on your consent, given when you sign up.
- To understand how the site is used, so we can improve it — based on our legitimate interest in running and improving the site.
You can withdraw consent for emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email we send, or by contacting us directly.
Who we share it with
We use a small number of third-party processors to run this site:
- beehiiv — stores your email address and sends the emails you’ve signed up for.
- Microsoft Clarity — collects the anonymised usage data described above.
- Google Analytics: collects the usage data described above, with IP addresses not logged or stored.
- Vercel — hosts this site and, like any web host, keeps standard server request logs.
These providers are based in the United States. Where your data is transferred there, it’s covered by that provider’s own data protection agreement and standard contractual clauses. We don’t share your data with anyone else.
How long we keep it
We keep your email address for as long as you’re subscribed. If you unsubscribe, it’s removed from active use and retained only as long as beehiiv’s own suppression-list process requires, to make sure we don’t email you again by mistake. Analytics data is retained under Microsoft Clarity’s own standard retention period, and for up to 14 months in Google Analytics.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal data we hold about you, and get a copy of it
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data
- Ask us to delete your data
- Object to or restrict how we use it
- Withdraw consent at any time
To exercise any of these, contact us at contact@architectureexplained.com. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
This site isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.
